Walking during sleep can be experienced by anyone. Many people consider it the norm or even the subject of teasing. And this is the disorders that could endanger health.
The team of researchers from Washington University, United States, managed to find the trigger by examining four generations within a family, in which nine members of his family of 22 people walking in his sleep disorder.
The team, led by Dr. Christina Gurnett was found that people who walked in his sleep has an error on a particular chromosome. With only one copy damaged DNA, is sufficient to cause walking during sleep.
From the analysis of saliva or saliva samples, researchers found that disruption of a fault on chromosome 20, which is genetically inherited. "It is possible that some genes trigger this problem. What we found is the first genetic locus," Gurnett said, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
"We do not yet know which genes are directly related to chromosome 20. But this discovery could help identify and treat conditions of walking disorders during sleep," he said, revealing that this case happened to one of 10 children and one in 50 adults.
When disturbances appear at night, a primitive part of the brain becomes active and controlling the controllers are not aware of. This then makes a person could do anything during sleep, such as sitting, walking, or doing other activities that are complex.
Condition known as somnambulism could endanger the lives of sufferers and those around him. In an unconscious condition, the patient could have hurt other people or walking into dangerous areas such as highways. When awake, patients usually can not remember the action.
