Botox injections are known as the injectable cosmetics to reduce wrinkles on the face and neck. From a study in mind, this popular beauty injections have health benefits, namely reducing the pain of chronic migraine.
UK Health Services Agency (NHS) has approved the use of anti-wrinkle injections to treat migraines since July 2010. Migraine affects about 700,000 people in this country.
Experiments on more than 1,300 patients showed that Botox reduced the frequency of headaches. Injections are given to people who get headaches at least 15 days a month or a migraine at least eight days a month.
Researchers do not know why botox that contain botulinum toxin is effective to reduce migraines. It is estimated, botox inhibit pain signals as well as relax the muscles.
Migraine sufferers will be given an injection of Botox in small doses at 31-39 points on the head and neck. Treatment performed regularly every 12 weeks. The cost of treatment was approximately 276 pounds, equivalent to Rp2, 5 million.
